INCREASING IN DISCERNMENT by Jonas Clark

Are you afraid to discern the presence of demon activities? Some are. Demons influence people and their activities must be discerned. You can’t stop them by ignoring then. Evil spirits, spirits of infirmity, seducing spirits, spirits of error, unclean spirits, anti-Christ spirits, Jezebel spirits and divination spirits have infiltrated the Church. They target the high places of authority and power. Sometimes these spirits work alone and at other times they network together.
Some have been victimized by evil spirits because they are afraid to judge demonic operations. Apostle John taught to try the spirits. He said, “Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world” (1 John 4:1). As already said spirits work through people. To “try the spirits” means to put them to the test. When you do this devils respond.

Here are four things spirits use to stop your spiritual discernment:
1. Don’t judge least you be judged.
2. Let the one without sin throw the first stone.
3. The measure you use to judge someone else will be measured back to you.
4. Take the beam out of your own eye first.

The list goes on and on. Did you notice the devil will use the bible to stop bible believing people? Yes everyone should examine their own hearts “first” but spiritual discernment requires sound judgment. You must judge. To judge simply means to make a judgment. Making a judgment “is not” being judgmental. A judgmental person is a fault finder. That’s not what we are discussing. Christians should never be fault finders or false accusers. We are writing about spiritual discernment that affects lives. Remember, we wrestle not against flesh and blood, that’s people, but against demonic spirits.
You make judgments every day. You believe what you hear or you don’t. No you are not judging any ones salvation, that’s between them and God, but you are judging what spirit they are flowing in and the fruit of their lives and ministries. Good trees bear good fruit. Bad trees bear bad fruit. This is where shared values and world views come.

It is unscriptural for someone to tell you not to judge because the spiritual man judges all things. Scripture makes this clear, “But he that is spiritual judgeth all things yet he himself is judged of no man” (1 Corinthians 2:15). Did you get that? The spiritual man judges all things. Are you a spiritual man? To judge, Greek anakrinō, means:

To investigate, examine, enquire into, scrutinize, sift and question.

As a judge would hold an investigation.

To interrogate and examine the accused or witnesses.

To judge, estimate, determine (the excellence or defects of any person or thing.

My Destiny vs His Purposes

To read the title of this article one obvious point pops out immediately ‘My’ way or ‘His’ way. Yet many miss or never stop to ponder the scriptural truth of HIS purposes verses MY destiny.

During the popularity of the Charismatic years there was an emphasis on “my destiny” or “our destiny. However I have come to see that yesteryear position as flawed with a focus on me, I or our objective. It is a self-serving position and teaching that some Christians continue in to this day. I understand scriptures such as Caleb saying, give me my land” Or where God says, I have plans for you, plans of good” Yet those scriptures do not constitute a doctrine or philosophical truth. A more scriptural position or doctrine would be, God what are ‘YOUR’ purposes for me and seek to enter into that purpose.

During Jesus time of ministry He had a destiny which He often stated, which was Jerusalem where He would face the cross. However in the garden He ask the Father if this cup ‘destiny’ would pass. His final position was, not my will but your will ( purposes) be done. It was never about “His destiny” rather it was Gods will or purposes for Jesus with the end destination being the cross. He continuously spoke of His coming to do the will (purposes) of the Father and not some destined plan.

When we focus and seek His purposes for us we remain dependent on His will and provision. We surrender each day to Him without the drive to fulfill some destiny. When we believe we have a destiny to obtain often times our seeking to reach or achieve that destiny becomes a goal or drive resulting in operating through our own strength as we focus on the goal rather than resting in trust, our future to God.

In todays self-centered lifestyle and teachings of self gratification the focus on ‘MY’ or ‘Our’ destiny is simply self serving verses focusing on ‘HIS’ purposes which is a surrendered lifestyle. Scripture is replete with verses that support an emphasis on ‘HIS’ purposes verses my destiny. I offer we should pray often, Lord what are your purposes for me today. Or as in the Lords prayer, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. I propose this position is one of, not my will but YOURS be done.

ON THE DAY of PENTECOST by David Wilkerson

What gospel did Peter preach to the masses on the Day of Pente-
cost? The Bible tells us that when the people heard the apostle
testify, "They were pricked in their heart, and said . . . Men and
brethren, what shall we do? Then Peter said unto them, Repent,
and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for
the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy
Ghost" (Acts 2:37-38).

Peter did not tell these people just to "believe and be saved." Nor
did he ask them to merely make a decision, to cast a vote for
Jesus. No, he told them to repent first, and then be baptized in
obedience to Christ!

What gospel did Paul preach to the pagan Athenians on Mars
Hill? He told them very directly, "God . . . now commandeth all
men everywhere to repent" (Acts 17:30).

These Greek intellectuals had no trouble believing in God. In fact,
you could say their very pastime was "believing" in many gods-
first this one, then that one. Whenever someone came along
preaching a god persuasively, they believed in it. So, they
believed-but they did it while living in sin. Simple belief was not enough!

Paul told these men, "No! No! Jesus cannot simply be added to
your list of gods. You may believe in them all, but you can´t do
that with Jesus. He has come to save you from your sins and He
commands all His followers to repent and be cleansed!"

Later, Paul preached the same gospel of repentance to King
Agrippa: "I was not disobedient unto the heavenly vision: but
shewed first unto them of Damascus, and at Jerusalem, and
throughout all the coasts of Judea, and then to the Gentiles, that
they should repent and turn to God, and do works meet for
repentance" (Acts 26:19-20).

Paul is saying, "Everywhere I´ve been, I´ve preached repentance.
And genuine repentance proves itself by its actions!"

These passages make clear to us that the apostolic church
preached unabashedly the same gospel John and Jesus preached:
"Repent for the remission of your sins!"
